Address Stamp

I'm a sucker for letterpress and anything to do with paper, stationery, you name it. At our last house, I had an address stamp and used it all the time. Despite paying bills online, there is still plenty of mail - birthday cards, thank you cards, letters to friends.

When we moved I knew just the one I wanted to buy. I think it's classic and fun at the same time. Do you use an address stamp like this or find it old fashioned?

Memorial Day Fun

I hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend! We did LOTS of house projects (more to come on that soon), but we managed to sneak in a bit of fun.

Fresh lobster, butter, good white wine and an avocado-basil-tomato-bacon-lemon pasta salad.
Nothing better than baseball under the lights - my cousin made it to the Div III National Championships!
I'm back to blonde for summer! Yippeee!
We took our first of many pontoon boat rides of the year. Brrr it was cold!

So true...

Oh man, oh man. Is this true or what?

From the outside...

We were blessed that the past owners of our home invested in great landscaping. It's beautiful and we love watching everything bloom! Last weekend we planted our herbs, pots, window boxes and more. We look forward to taking good care of the yard! And while we're not doing a garden this year, there is a perfect spot for the future. We also have lilacs and four or five fruit trees (pear or cherry trees, I think), so it will be fun to watch those grow. Here's a few snapshots I took on my iPhone a few sunny nights ago. I just love walking around!

You'll notice there is not a rhubarb plant, yet. I think I shall plant one soon! Meantime, if anyone has any they'd like to share I'd surely be grateful.

Nina Ave.

I was in Chicago last Sunday for a bridal shower just down the road from Nina Avenue. I couldn't help myself... :) What are the chances?

P.S. If you haven't heard of Gizoogle you MUST check it out. Like now. It will make your day.

Five Bits

A special edition of five bits...

1. At first glance it may appear too hard. Look again. Always look again. - unknown

2. Keep your face always toward sunshine and shadows will fall behind you. - walt whitman

3. Stop letting people who do so little for you control so much of your mind, feelings, and emotions. - unknown

4. Most people do not listen with the intent to understand. Most people listen with the intent to reply - stephen r. covey

5. Faith in God includes faith in His timing. - neal a. maxwell

New Neighbor Gift

Our neighborhood is small and full of younger families, so I knew I wanted to make a good first impression. When it came time to go around and introduce ourselves to our new neighbors we brought along a small gift - nothing fancy. Here's what I came up with.

I used inexpensive mason jars, some summery teal ribbon and printed these tags. I filled the jars with Ina Garten's Rosemary Roasted Cashews. It's a recipe I've made over and over, but is always a crowd pleaser. It's also easy to make in advance and makes a large batch.

Lately...

I know, I know. I'm behind. I've forgotten to post about our amazing weekend in Kohler - our stay at the American Club, my time at the Waters Spa (hello Avocado Body Wrap), our to-die-for six course dinner with wine pairings at the Immigrant Room. Ahh-mazing. Mr. Evans sure does have a great job!

I've forgotten to show you pictures from moving day - the great help, my wonderful family, our Kentucky Derby mint juleps, a delish brunch and more. Maybe it's because I didn't take a single picture all weekend.

So for now, here's an update on the last few days... I had a wonderful Mother's Day. The best, actually. Here we are at brunch at our Country Club.

We've been enjoying our sunroom and back patio. Although we are mostly organized and settled, we still have what seems like quite a bit more work to do. I'm thinking I'll post some photos soon so you can see our home. Sound good?

Mr. Evans got a new lawn tractor. We have an acre of land to cut now, so this was a must. Wait - did I say we? :) Not.

P.S. I loved this post about expectations, getting older and being presents. Girls, it's a must read. I know you can relate.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is this weekend. As I reflect upon this fun day, here are just a few things my mom has taught me:

1. It's better to be over dressed than under dressed
2. A basil martini or a glass of wine is always a good idea
3. Take one thing you like from every person you meet and apply it to your life
4. Treat everyone equally
5. The guy should like the girl just a little bit more
6. How to make pasta sauce from scratch
7. No chipped nail polish allowed
8. Parenting isn't a science - trust your instincts because you already know more than you think
9. Don't take life too seriously
10. Success is a result of hard work and being nice (not necessarily connections or education)
11. Treat older generations with respect

What has your mother taught you?

A quick update

A quick update on our move! It went great! It couldn't have gone better, actually. We had fantastic help, loads of friends and family to boot, and are somewhat settled. Nina is doing better - her UTI is gone, her ear infection is better (despite a switch in antibiotics due to some not-so-fun side effects) and surprise! she has 4 new teeth. It was an eventful weekend to say the least. Then... about 4 hours after our last house guests left us on Sunday night... it. hit. me. The stomach flu? Food poisoning? Whatever it was, it was not fun. I sure do  hope none of my family gets whatever ailed me. :(

Despite this all, life goes on. We are so grateful for our new home. The time spent with family from near and far. The windows washed. The kitchen organized. A full fridge. And to my pleasant surprise, our tulips have bloomed, just in time for our first days. A nice little welcome from our new home. She must be saying to us... Hello Evans Family! I'm glad to have you live within my walls! Let's make some memories!

In our world...

Moving weekend is here! So exciting! Today the piano was delivered and tomorrow the fun begins. I'll post photos soon. Thanks in advance to all of our friends and family who are fantastic help...as always!

For now, here's what I've been up to. Two doctor visits in the last 24 hours. Poor little thing. A UTI and a double ear infection are a double whammy to miss Nina.

Progress

The painting has begun at our new house! Here's a few sneak peek iPhone pics of the main living room and kitchen. The previous owners had a color called "Lime Granita" on the walls. Not my taste... so, up comes a nice neutral. I chose Bleeker Beige (HC-80) by Benjamin Moore. I totally love it! We also decided to paint the ceilings a fresh coat of bright white. The ceilings and accompanying skylights were painted a yellowy ivory. Again, not my taste. I think the new ceiling and wall colors makes such a difference. What do you think?
